FNN Issue 9
No. 9 Fortnightly Nerd News is finally ONLINE!!
Friday, 9th April 2010
That's right folks .. you heard me right. We are ONLINE .. yeah.. yell it out!!
This has been a dream for few of us and Bojan, you pushed me to put it online even though it is not fully complete yet. I have been giving away all my newsworthy stories of late and it really is about time I got this together.
So, let's check it out...
Nerd News Website
After almost 2 years and 8 issues later, we have a website dedicated to Nerd News.
It has been a challenge to get this far and it is not 100% complete as of yet. I did not have much free time in my hands, but over few weekends, amongst other things, I managed this. I'm sure there are few bugs and typos here and there .. let me know if you find any.
So, what else can you see in the near future.
- Hopefully more frequent newsletters
- You will get an email when the newsletters are out - if you are a subscriber
- You can submit your own article - to be published on a future newsletter
Apart fromt that, this is pretty much it.. I hope you enjoy it!
Geeks are not just a bunch of nerds..
This would be one of the most important stories I have come across within Nerd News so far. Its a testimony of the true potential of humanity and nerdy-ness combined.

I don't know how to fix people, but I know how to fix computers, if I can help people by doing that ... fantastic.
I couldn't agree more. You can view a summary video about their activities for the recent Haiti earthquake. They are Crisis Camp.
All in One
We all (okay, most of us) have virtual machines for tests etc. But this is true all in one power:

How a Web Design Goes Straight to Hell
I think this is one of those things that we know to be so true it is scary than funny.. but this is pretty funny.

Read the full story .. and you might just be able to map it to what happened..
Shoot your own leg
Well if you invent a browser and supply addons for that browser, you probably should allow those addons to be installed without too much stuffing around .. one would think so..
Mozzilla didn't

Also, Zend - the PHP company thought .NET should take care of their website...

Firefox Cookies
Well.. not the nasty kind that sits on your computer and wait for the right moment to grab all your money and melt down your computer, but the tasty ones.
I eat an apple a day to keep the doc away, not because I'm a fanboy.. but some of us goes that extra mile or two.. check this guy out.

JavaScript's Chuck Norris
Finally, I have something that had me cracking for quite some time. Few people agreed that John Resig is the equivalent of Chuck Norris for the JavaScript world.

For those who don't know, John Resig is the creator of the brilliant jQuery JavaScript library (we do all our fancy work on websites thanks to that).
Few of my favourite things that John would do:
John Resig can kill you with two lines of code. Sure, he could do it with one, but the force of the explosion would cause the universe to collapse into a giant black hole.
John Resig scheduled a cron job to run “rm -rf /” sometime in 2012. How the heck did the Mayans know that?
You can see the full list of things.. comments are fun too..
Have a great fortnight!
