Gents, this must be the first newsletter that actually came exactly 2 weeks after the previous one, in turn, living up to the name of Fortnightly Nerd News! Hopefully there's enough news that is nerd-worthy to keep this up.

Actually, there are lot of people doing a lot of things and it is hard to keep-up with the rate of the technology growth these days.. eveyday, there's something out there that blows you away and make you feel small.

There was a lot of things to say about Google, it was so much, that this edition is dedicated to Google!

PacMan - Google Style

I was gathering a bit of content and I realised that most of the things related to Google.. then I saw this today and that just tipped the truck over... I'm still recovering from the massive jaw-drop that occured after seeing this thing and realising what it was.

Fully functional PacMan serving the Google home page as the Doodle completely made out of JavaScript and CSS ...!!! And wait, the IFL button is now the insert coin button that gives you the secondary controls.

Google PacMan

Who is sIFR..? Out of the way Cufon ... Google webfonts are here to rule!

If you are a nerd with a bit of a design flare - hold on to your pants!

If you are a designer who loves typograpgy - get the tissue box!

Google Webfonts

Well.. technically, this isn't the same as sIFR or Cufon - those two are completely different anyway .. this is CSS font embedding executed in a really cool way.

*** NOTE ***
With this method, you should only use fonts that are open for free use. Because, with font embedding, the font is actually downloaded to the browser, so there are some copyright issues.

So, if you already planned to plaster the next design with your fancy-pants font, you may want to slow down and just want to look at what is freely available from Google on the font directory.

There is a nice API to add fonts to webpages ... because they can!

Public Data - gotta love stats and charts

This is one of those things that is out there and deliver awesome results and may not be useful for a lot of people .. but for some it would be fantastic.

Imagine looking for Internet Users in United States or Energy Consumption in Australia and you will be given the stats on the spot. When you get in to public data options it is amazing to see what's out there.

And you know what .. you are part of statistic .. and for most of us, that would be the case overall.

Google Public Data Sample

It is really interesting to see the levels of stats you can get from world development indicators. On Bubble and Map charts you can play the timeline and the data would animate as the years flow by

Autocomplete - you .. complete .. me!!

These days, it was hard to find a service without autocomplete. It has become the norm and people expect things to autocomplete on web apps. Google autocomplete somewhat chnaged the way that the search works. We used to type in the keywords and search for them, but now, we type in the keywords and wait for the autocomplete to complete the sentence for you by way of providing suggestions. It's made us even more lazy-er.

I was just hiting the keyboard the other day and I got this .. I thought it was pretty funny.

Google autocomplete

Google knew that I had a blank mind. I had results that are relevant for that kind of thing!

It was just an accident that I found the following on the same day:

Autocomplete Me

Google just about has everything...

Autocomplete Story

We all know what Google is .. if you don't, wait for the suggestions for "Google is" on Google..

They do all this .. because they can!

Why IE does not work for you

Guys, I may have published this before, but it is worth publishing this again.

This is why IE does not work anywhere else in the world!

IE only works on certain sites

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that this was probably the wrong story to talk about internet malware ... I don't know, before I realised it was an Ad, I thought ninemsn was going crazy about gay sex!

Anyway, you're probably wandering why I'm running a non-Google story on a Google edition of the Nerd News ...

... because I can!!

Have a great fortnight!
